Plant your Spring flower garden and enjoying the better weather as Spring approaches! This activity combines a bit of art (painting flowers) and fine motor skill practice as toddlers "plant" their flowers.
You surely have some empty cardboard egg cartons around? Right? Then join us in today's #junkplay and create this easy to make Spring flower garden!
Supplies to make egg carton flower gardern
To recreate egg carton flower garden you will need:
- cardboard egg carton (from recycle bin)
- several green drinking straws (we had these already at home)
- artificial grass (we saved some from previous Easter)
- paint for egg carton flowers
- brush and scissors
How to make a simple flower garden for spring play
To get the garden ready, use scissors to drill holes for "planting" flowers.
Cut several cups from the egg carton and turn them into flowers. My toddler painted these while I prepared our "garden". Once you paint them, let them dry.
When you have a garden ready, add some artificial grass all over it. If your flower cups are dry, drill a hole in a middle and only slip drinking straw through the hole. There you go! You have made both flowers and garden to plant them! I think the longest time took paint to dry!
When we had it all ready, my toddler enjoyed planting her flowers, arranging and rearranging the order of yellow and red flowers. She also worked on her fine motor skills as she placed drinking straws through holes in an egg carton. But, that's my little secret! As far as she was concerned, it was all good old play!
